Pantone Colors for Spring 2020
What do saffron, faded denim, and sunlight have in common? They’re all monikers for Pantone’s predicted color trends for spring 2020.
Primary Colors
The first thing that stood out to us is that no one color shade dominated this lineup. In the last few years, we’ve seen oranges, reds, pinks, and purples take over the color charts. This year promises to be a bit more well-rounded with pastels taking a backseat to primary shades. As we write this, Pantone has yet to announce which color will be Color of the Year, but if past years are any indication, we’re predicting it will be Mosaic Blue. We’ll update the article after the Color of the Year announcement to let you know if we were right. Now, on to the colors!
Flame Scarlet
Red has various meanings in all parts of the world, but one word that sums it up across all boards is energetic, and Pantone’s bright-burning Flame Scarlet fits that description to a tee. Because this color is so bright and energetic, we recommend using it as an accent shade with accessories or a fun showcase wall.
Saffron
It’s a bit funny these shades are picked for spring when some remind us so much of fall. Take Saffron, for example, which has us hankering for a run through a cornfield.
Classic Blue
Who doesn’t love blue? Our prediction for Color of the Year is actually a toss-up between this classic shade and the teal Mosaic Blue. Moody cabinet colors have been trending throughout the nation and the rest of the western world for the past couple of years, and we expect to see even more in 2020.
Biscay Green
Calling all island lovers! Reminiscent of the beautiful shores of the Caribbean Islands, Biscay Green is perfect for an office, bathroom, or even a laundry room.
Chive
Did you know that greens like this shade are the best colors for a peaceful, restful bedroom? We think Chive also looks awesome on kitchen or bathroom cabinets! Actually, we think Chive would work well in just about any room.
Faded Denim
Faded Denim is perfect for blue-lovers who want a laid-back, easygoing vibe. Like Chive, Faded Denim is one of those shades that would look great just about anywhere.
Orange Peel
Got a workout room or playroom project in the works? Orange Peel might be the perfect shade. Like red, orange is energetic. Unlike red, orange is less moody and more vibrant. It’s also a symbol of health and vitality for many people which is why it works great in a workout, playroom, or recreational room.
Mosaic Blue
The perfect blue doesn’t exi-- oh, wait, yes it does! Mosaic Blue isn’t quite as laid-back as Faded Denim nor is it as vibrant as Classic Blue which is why it’s the perfect shade for anyone who is torn between being subtle and making a splash with their interior color choice.
Sunlight
If this sunny shade doesn’t make you think of summers spent languishing in a sunroom with a good book, you probably didn’t spend any of your summers in a sunroom. See how many times we used sun and summer in that first sentence? That’s because sun and summer are exactly what comes to mind, and it’s why Sunlight is our favorite yellow from Pantone’s picks for the warm seasons of 2020.
Coral Pink
Not to be confused with 2019’s color of the year, Living Coral, Coral Pink is a punchy, peachy pink that works well for a young girl’s room, a she-shed or even a home office.
Cinnamon Stick
Terms like “earth mother” and “boho vibe” come to mind with Cinnamon Stick. It’s a beautiful pick for cabinetry or open shelving.
Grape Compote
Fans of 2018’s color of the year, Ultra Violet, will appreciate Pantone’s purple pick for spring. If you’re thinking of adding a pop of color to your kitchen, consider this for your kitchen island. Since purple promotes creativity, this shade also works great in a home office or studio.
The Neutrals
No Pantone color trend chart is complete without their picks for the perfect neutrals. You’ll notice warmer, spicy shades this year than in recent years past.
Lark
Lark is khaki with a kick. Try this shade on the walls of your living room or kitchen.
Navy Blazer
This deep, dark midnight navy is idyllic for homeowners who love the “so dark it’s almost black” shades.
Brilliant White
Do you dream visions of white when it comes to your dream home? Brilliant White is the just-right shade of white you’re dreaming of.
Ash
The new grays aren’t quite all gray. The new grays let their background colors shine, kind of like Ash which has us wondering, is it gray or is it brown?
